PlayStation State Of Play June 2026: Start Time, How To Watch, And What To Expect
__DEGRADED__ The spirit of E3 is very much alive, as Sony is back this week with a new State of Play livestream on June 2. Alongside several other big names in gaming, the PlayStation-focused broadcast will show off what's next for the gaming brand across its first-party studios and third-party partners. We’ve rounded up all the details you need to know for the livestream, so you can see when to tune in exactly, where to watch, and what to expect. How to watch State of Play As always, State of Play will be streamed live on Sony’s YouTube and Twitch channels. State of Play kicks off on June 2, at the following times: 2 PM PT 5 PM ET 10 PM BST 11 PM CEST 6 AM JST (June 3) What to expect Officially, Sony says that you can watch over an hour of updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from studios across the world. Marvel's Wolverine will kick things off, but beyond that, Sony is keeping quiet. It's likely that Arc System Works Marvel-themed fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, will make an appearance since it's out on August 6, and we wouldn't be surprised to see more of Horizon: Hunters Gathering. Other potential games from Sony's portfolio that could potentially make an appearance include Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet, and it's rumored that Haven Studios' FairGame$ has been rebranded, so a re-reveal might be on the cards. Sony Santa Monica Studio has also been quiet since God of War Ragnarok was released, so it might be time for the studio to finally reveal that spin-off rumored to be in the works. On the third-party side, Persona 6 and a Rayman Origins remaster are also said to be in development, so a State of Play reveal wouldn't be unlikely. Then there's the GTA 6-sized elephant in the room, as Rockstar Games' open-world crime caper hasn't been seen since its second trailer dropped long, long ago. With a marketing deal in place with Sony, seeing a new look at the game ahead of its November release would end the show on a very high note.
Debut Title From Former Forza Horizon Developers Sounds A Lot Like Forza Horizon, But With More Family
__DEGRADED__ Following the studio's formation in 2024, Maverick Games has revealed its debut title, an open-world, narrative-driven racing game named Clutch. The studio is spear-headed by Playground Games veterans, with experience across most of the Forza Horizon series. Clutch is described as a cinematic open-world racer, following the rise of sibling racers competing in a prestigious racing series called R1K. The series has sanctioned events that you'll partake in, but also acts as a cover for the Midnight Collective: a series of underground racers that is meant to show the seedier side of the game's campaign. The campaign plays out in a living world, with PvPvE elements determining the power of several crews and their alliances within the game's story. You'll be able to react to these shifts within the context of your own campaign, partaking in a mix of planned and spontaneous races that Maverick Games says can pop up at anytime. How all these elements work together is a little vague as it stands, but a debut trailer later this week at Summer Game Fest should hopefully clear that up. As for the racing, Maverick Games says it plans to deliver a distinct style of arcade action by leveraging an in-house physics engine and its open-world sandbox design to create some chaotic races. Vehicles will be open to customization, with Maverick Games teasing that there will be ways for players to create one-of-a-kind rides that it hopes will help players build stronger connections with their favorite cars. Amazon was initially set to publish Clutch, but dropped out of the deal earlier this year before it had been formally reveal. Maverick Games founder and creative director Mike Brown said at the time that the studio was in conversations with other partners to ensure that its debut title remained on track for release, which is currently set for spring 2027.
GTA 6 Could Sell 35 Million Copies By April 2027, Report Says
__DEGRADED__ The research firm Piper Sandler has released a new investor report covering Take-Two, the owner of Rockstar Games and the GTA franchise. The report gave Take-Two's stock a "overweight" rating (which implies growth potential), with Piper Sandler setting a new price target for the stock of $280. The company's stock closed at $226.98 on June 1. Take-Two's all-time high is about $265, so Piper's prediction would beat that. What's driving the enthusiasm? GTA 6, of course. Piper Sandler said some of the near-term catalysts for Take-Two's stock includes a third GTA 6 trailer, preorders going live, and the game's marketing campaign kicking off. Piper Sandler predicted GTA 6 to reach sales of about 35 million units by April 2027, which would amount to about a 30% attach rate on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, the firm estimated. DFC Intelligence, meanwhile, previously predicted 40 million sales for GTA 6 over its first 12 months. After launch, GTA 6 could benefit from whatever GTA Online brings to market, along with a second wave of sales when the game comes to PC and PS6 and Project Helix, Piper Sandler said. To be sure, Rockstar has not made any announcements about bringing GTA 6 to next-gen platforms, nor has the developer said a peep about GTA 6's online mode. These predictions make sense, given GTA Online for GTA 5 has been, and continues to be, a money-printer for Rockstar. Regarding the possibility of expanding to next-gen platforms, that would also fall in line with Rockstar's established playbook. After all, GTA 5 first launched in 2013 on PS3 and Xbox 360 before later getting new versions for PS4 and Xbox One, and then PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, Piper Sandler said it sees a rosy future for GTA 6 (and Take-Two's stock, in return) because "modern live-streaming platforms" like Twitch may be able to help drive even more interest in GTA 6 and convince more people to buy the game. Services like Twitch and other video streaming platforms did exist when GTA 5 was released in 2013, but they have grown substantially larger and more influential since then. Beyond expected success from GTA 6, Piper Sandler said Take-Two is looking like a good investment right now because the company's mobile division, Zynga, is improving its business. Additionally, Piper Sandler said Take-Two's ability to get more money out of people with its "recurring consumer spending" strategies in games like GTA and NBA 2K is a sign of strength. "In a consolidating media landscape, Take-Two stands out as a scarce, high-value asset with significant long-term appreciation potential," Piper Sandler said. GTA 6 launches on November 19 for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
The Simpsons Boss Says Monopoly Go Crossover Wasn’t Meant To Be A “Butt-Kissy” Brand Deal
__DEGRADED__ After invading Fortnite last year, The Simpsons are crossing over into the world of Monopoly Go this month for an event that feels like it was pulled straight from the long-running TV series. While you'd expect such a collaboration to dress the game up in Simpsons themes and throw in a few voice clips, developer Scopely is going all in, having debuted an animated short that features tyrant billionaire Mr. Burns taking on Monopoly icon Mr. Pennybags (voiced by Will Ferrell in the short). Scopely's plans include a narrative-driven takeover of Monopoly Go, with players taking part in a storyline that The Simpsons team has had a hand in crafting. According to The Simpsons executive producer and showrunner Matt Selman, this has resulted in a crossover that feels both "Simpsons-y" and avoids feeling like a "butt-kissy, pointless" team-up. "They really ran with the Simpsons football so beautifully because we were just like, be subversive, be Simpson-y," Selman said to IGN. "Don't just be a butt-kissy, pointless brand collaboration. They took that note to heart and said, 'We are going to make this. Like, what's the version of this Bart would love to play? What's the version of this that has that Bart attitude of being playful and subversive and not just straight ahead?' I mean, we all love the Three Little Pigs chapter of Monopoly Go, but subversiveness is not the word that came to mind when you played it. I mean, they were definitely cute pigs. They gave you little dice and stuff when you whacked those little pigs." The Simpsons are far removed from their heyday of licensed video games, but following last year's popular Fortnite crossover, there's hope that Springfield's favorite family could once again feature in more games. Top of the list for many fans is a remaster of The Simpsons: Hit & Run, and collaborations like this could show just how hungry people are for the cult-classic game. The 2003 GTA-inspired game still has legions of fans, and Selman has encouraged its fans to keep holding out hope for something to happen in the future.
Star Fox Is Finally Coming To Switch 2, And Preorders Are Now Live
__DEGRADED__ $60 | Releases June 25 $50 | Releases June 25 After nearly a decade, Nintendo's Star Fox series is making a big comeback next month on Switch 2. Preorders are now live for Star Fox--a remake of the classic N64 game Star Fox 64--and it'll be available either as a $60 physical edition or a $50 digital version. It looks like Amazon and Walmart will have the best deal, as they're price-matching the physical edition with the $50 digital version, saving you $10 in the process. $60 | Releases June 25 A space combat game featuring Fox McCloud--who made a memorable cameo in the recent Super Mario Galaxy Movie--and his allies Falco, Slippy, and Peppy, Star Fox sees players leap into an Arwing fighter jet and defend the Lylat system from invading forces. Nintendo has described the remake as a modernized adventure that features a complete visual overhaul, and the game is also enhanced with all-new cinematic cutscenes, new and returning game modes, additional Switch 2-specific features, and more. Like most Nintendo first-party releases, the complete Star Fox game will be included on the game cart. $50 | Releases June 25 If you're looking to save a few bucks and you don't mind ditching the physical cartridge format, you can grab a download code for Star Fox priced at $50. This isn't the first time that Star Fox 64 has been remade, as Star Fox Zero reimagined the classic game for the Wii U console back in 2016. Like the N64 original, the new remake is a rail shooter game where you'll get to pilot the Arwing jet, unleash laser fire, and do a good ol' barrel roll to evade danger. The new Switch 2 features include added mouse controls, and a second player can hop into the Arwing gunner seat while you focus on flying. One of the other additions to the game is a Battle Mode for head-to-head action against other players who take control of Star Wolf, challenge modes for an extra layer of replayability, and support for GameShare. Star Fox is one of several Nintendo first-party games on the way, as Yoshi and the Mysterious Book arrives on May 21 and Splatoon Raiders will be released on July 23. Don't forget, you can also catch Fox McCloud in The Super Mario Galaxy Movie when it hits Blu-ray soon. Preorders are live for the standard 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD releases, and there are also steelbook and collector's edition versions to grab.
Halo 3 “1v1 Me Bro” Tournament Announced, Top Prize Is A Legendary Console
__DEGRADED__ GameStop has announced a 1v1 Halo 3 tournament, and the top prize is one of the best-looking Xbox consoles ever designed. The retailer is hosting a one-day tournament at its Euless, Texas location on Saturday, June 6 where people can square off against Michael “Flamesword” Chaves for a chance to win the Xbox 360 Halo 3 edition console. The system, which was originally released in 2007 for Halo 3's launch, has a tasty color palette that's meant to match Master Chief's own color scheme. The fine print of the "1v1 Me Bro" tournament states that you must be 18 or older to participate, and the contest is taking place with a first-come queue. The first person to beat Flamesword will win the contest and the event will end. There are no other details, but presumably the contest will be played on an Xbox 360. If you want the Halo 3 Xbox 360 but don't want to play in the tournament, you can buy it from GameStop for $100. If you're interested in attending the contest, you can visit the GameStop store at 1301 W Glade Road in Euless, Texas. The event begins at 5 PM on June 6. In other GameStop news, the retailer is currently trying to acquire eBay, but the auction site flatly rejected the video game store's $56 billion offer. In other Halo news, Halo: Campaign Evolved is coming this year and we could learn more about it during the Xbox Games Showcase on June 7.
Marvel Fans Disappointed as Today's Big Avengers: Doomsday Tease Appears to Be a Pop-Up Coffee Shop
__DEGRADED__ Marvel fans have reacted in disappointment after today's much-anticipated Avengers: Doomsday tease turned out to be for a Doctor Doom-themed coffee shop. The pop-up branch of Dom Latveria Coffee (in reality, a rebranded Flying Horse Coffee outlet in Shoreditch) is open now in east London, located near the SXSW London festival. It's at that festival that Avengers: Doomsday directors Joe and Anthony Russo are due to appear to talk about their production company. Rather than offering new insight on their Marvel work, however, this coffee outlet down the road now appears to be the thing that their colleague Donald Mustard (previously boss of Fortnite) recently teased. Videos shared online by Marvel fans at the coffee shop show that Dom Latveria allows you to buy Latveria-branded bags of small batch coffee adorned with the country's emblem. This is the design that the Russos and Mustard have slowly revealed over the past week on social media — prompting fans to again speculate that a new trailer was near. "The official coffee of world domination," read the bags. "Approved by the ministry of morale. Resistance is delicious." Product information on the coffee bags describes it as being harvested from the Finca Latveria Reserve by "those who serve." In reality, these seem like standard arabica beans. An extra sign on the outlet's regular menu board states "Welcome to Latveria" and then the intriguing addition: "Richards was wrong." Other than that, the outlet's menu simply advertises all the branch's coffee types (a flat white is £4.10, if you're wondering). To be fair, Mustard's social media post yesterday had included the address of the Flying Horse Coffee outlet — though without naming the branch, or specifying what might be found there. Many had assumed the address simply referred to the nearby SXSW Festival venue. And then there's the mention of a "surprise at 2pm" — a few hours from now. While there may still be more going on than meets the eye, fans are now putting their expectations in check and discounting the likelihood that any of this has been leading to an explosive new Avengers: Doomsday trailer. "That's all there is at the popup?" wrote one fan after seeing the above video. "At this point, I think the 'surprise' will be the Russo Brothers and RDJ showing up there," commented Marvel fan Andrei Von Doom via X/Twitter. "Honestly, I hope I’m wrong and we get a Doomsday trailer today." Avengers Doomsday launches in theaters on December 18, 2026. Until then, you can see what Joe Russo had to say about spoilers for this year's movie ahead of its release. Tom Phillips is IGN's News Editor. Forza Horizon and Need for Speed Meet in Maverick Games’ Debut Driving Project
__DEGRADED__ UK-based Maverick Games has revealed its debut project, Clutch, which it describes as a “cinematic open-world action-driving game.” Clutch’s story will combine both professional circuit racing with “action-packed underground race-and-chase sandbox gameplay where speed and style meet high-stakes pursuits and risky escapes.” Led by former Forza Horizon 5 creative director Mike Brown, Clutch will launch in Spring 2027 on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. Clutch’s story campaign will focus on a pair of sibling driving prodigies navigating their way through both a prestigious and historic racing tournament known as the R1K (described as a proving ground for the world’s top drivers for the past 100 years) and an underground car community dubbed Midnight Collective. However, when Clutch’s hero character finds himself in hot water and in need of a fixer, “the underbelly of the R1K is smashed wide open.” A first look at the story, actors, and the world of Clutch will be revealed at the Summer Game Fest Showcase on Friday, June 5. The announcement describes that Clutch will see players competing across a living PvPvE action-driving world, and it’s noted Clutch’s “open-world sandbox unleashes blockbuster action and unscripted chaos in every high-speed getaway.” At one point, a car is depicted firing a grappling gadget at a pole and swinging around it at speed. In the first look at Clutch, Brown discussed that the project is benefiting from the longest development of any game he’s worked on. Running on a custom version of Unreal Engine 5, Clutch will not only boast cars where “every exterior curve, every fleck of paint, [and] every interior stitch” is recreated perfectly, but cars that actually come with signs of wear, and signs that the cars have actually been driven. Clutch will also arrive with a deep level of vehicle customisation options, both interior and exterior. The initial showcase unveils a wide range of options, from steering wheels to exhaust tips, and seats to neons. However, not only does it appear we can expect a large range of custom parts and options, but there will also be human details available to help the cars feel even more real. The examples shown are things like coffee cups and drinks in the cupholders, receipts on the dashboard, or hoodies strewn over the passenger seat. “I’ll talk through what we were going with there,” Brown tells IGN. “I’m not going to ding any other games in particular, because this actually applies to quite a few games, but I guess traditionally the presentation has a bit museum-like. Where the car, no matter its age, will be presented in a way that is completely pristine. Which then creates a problem that it’s so perfect that it doesn’t alway sit in the scene in a way that makes sense. Like, you’d be driving it around a place that looks like a real city or real countryside, with this museum-quality 60-year-old car driving around. “It always pops out of the scene in a way that doesn’t feel real. You could never actually see that car, on a road, looking like that; it would never exist that way. The way it’d actually exist would be there’d be dust, there’d be little bits of build-up, there’d be carbon around the exhaust. There’d be little bits of wear here and there. If you looked inside it there’d be wear on the steering wheel where someone’s driven this and gripped it, and the leather would be sagging on the seats. Maybe there’d be sun damage on the leather if it’s a soft top. Once you start to layer in all those bits of detail, a thing just looks that much more real and loved.” Brown founded Maverick in December 2022, a little over a year after Forza Horizon 5 was released. “I had been on Forza for a very long time and had achieved, I think, quite a lot with that franchise and really had an appetite to go and do something new; to try and push and do something new in the genre,” he says. “The problem with a franchise that is as successful and, frankly, excellent as Forza is it’s very difficult to go and try and push that thing into a whole new direction because the business would like it to stay in the direction it’s going, because it’s good for business. I felt like there was an opportunity to do something different and do something a bit fresher in the genre.” As a result, Brown departed Playground and set up Maverick Games, where he was joined by a number of other Forza Horizon veterans, including producer Tom Butcher, technical director Matt Craven, technical art director Gareth Harwood, audio director Fraser Stachan, and art director Ben Penrose.
PlayStation First-Party Game Sales Have Declined Over the Past 5 Years, Although Ghost of Yotei Helped Reverse the Trend
__DEGRADED__ On the eve of Sony’s crucial State of Play showcase, new data has revealed a steady decline in first-party PlayStation game sales over the past five years, although 2025's Ghost of Yotei helped reverse the trend. Having increased the price of a PlayStation 5 and the cost of a PlayStation Plus subscription, Sony is under pressure to deliver with tonight’s State of Play, which we know will include a new look at Insomniac’s Wolverine game. But fans are hoping to hear more from Sony’s wide network of first-party developers at State of Play (check out our predictions here), many of which haven't released a brand new game in years. But it isn’t just fans who are applying pressure on Sony. Sony needs some more hit PlayStation games, data reported on by Game File’s Stephen Totilo suggests. Totilo said that Sony has sold millions fewer copies of games it’s either published or developed for PlayStation consoles each financial year since April 2020, which saw a boom in gaming due to lockdowns and the release of heavy hitters such as The Last of Us Part II and Ghost of Tsushima. Last year (April 2025 to end of March 2026) reversed the trend with a small bump fueled by Ghost of Yotei's release. So, what has Sony actually released over the last half decade? Well, there have been some high-profile bombs, including the disastrous live-service game Concord. But it’s worth remembering that through it all, Sony has had a number of smash hits despite the overall sales figure falling. Arrowhead’s Helldivers 2, for example, remains the fastest-selling PlayStation Studios game of all time. Astro Bot might not have sold at the same level, but it was critically acclaimed. Insomniac has released Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Spider-Man 2, both of which have sold millions, and Sony Santa Monica released God of War Ragnarök, which was a huge hit. Polyphony released Gran Turismo 7. Guerrilla released Horizon Forbidden West. These are all major launches. But the data doesn’t lie. As Totilo points out, remakes and remasters, of which Sony has released a handful in recent years, haven’t closed the gap. Sony is selling fewer PlayStation Studios games on PlayStation consoles, which may have factored into its decision to pull away from PC and return to PlayStation exclusivity for its single-player narrative titles. However, Sony will be happy that total PlayStation game sales, including sales of games from third-party developers and publishers, have risen in recent years. So overall, it’s a positive picture. It’s just that Sony-published games could use a shot in the arm. The data reinforces the idea that Sony has struggled to release new PlayStation 5 games this generation. Big new games have come out, as we've outlined, but some developers haven’t released brand new games in years. Chief among them is Naughty Dog, which is working on Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet but hasn’t released a brand new game since the aforementioned The Last of Us Part II six years ago. Gran Turismo 7 came out as a cross-gen game four years ago, and continues to receive updates, but Polyphony is due another entry in the racing game franchise. Bend Studio’s last game was 2019’s Days Gone. Media Molecule’s last game was 2020’s Dreams. It’s impossible to point out the slowdown in sales of first-party Sony games without also talking about the many games it has canceled in recent years. Sony’s well-documented live-service game push resulted in mega hit Helldivers 2, but The Last of Us Online was canceled, Concord and its developer, Firewalk, was shut down, and a God of War live-service game from Bluepoint didn’t even make it to announcement before it fell by the wayside. Then there’s the canceled Twisted Metal live-service game, and canceled games at Sony Bend. Haven Studios' Fairgames is still officially in the works, but may have been renamed. All those canceled games have certainly left a hole in Sony’s release schedule. Not included in the data are recently released PlayStation Studios games, such as Housemarque's Saros, although that appears to have struggled in sales terms, and Bungie's Marathon, which has also appeared to miss sales targets. And there's reason to believe the coming years will see a futher increase in PlayStation Studios game sales. Sony will have high hopes for Marvel's Wolverine, and Naughty Dog's Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet is sure to command attention. State of Play will hopefully flesh the lineup out. Subnautica 2 Hotfix Modifies Creature Behavior Further So Some Predators Will Attack Players Less Often
__DEGRADED__ Subnautica 2 developer Unknown Worlds has released the game’s third hotfix since early access launch, this time modifying the behavior of creatures in response to complaints about not being able to kill predators. Not being able to directly kill fish in Subnautica 2 is the game’s hottest topic, and while Unknown Worlds has promised to add “mitigation” to the game so you can better deal with predators, it will never allow you to kill them. So, rather than add combat to Subnautica 2 or give death-dealing weapons to players, Unknown Worlds is changing the way predators work. This hotfix is a part of that. For example, Hammerheads no longer attack unpiloted Tadpoles, although they can still take an interest in Tadpoles generally. And while the overall damage of Marrowbreaches is increased, their attacks are now spaced out to occur less frequently. As for Nibblers, their perception range is reduced so players are less visible to them, and the duration Nibblers circle the player before attacking is increased. Patch notes courtesy of Steam are below. The hotfix is well-timed. Just yesterday, we reported on comments from Subnautica 2 design lead Anthony Gallegos, who explained the developers’ true intent in ditching combat for the sequel. A narrative has emerged that Unknown Worlds actually set out to create a “pacifism game.” That, Gallegos told MinnMax in a fascinating new interview about the design of Subnautica 2, just isn’t true. Unknown Worlds has been open about its plans to add ways for players to mitigate the threat of predators in Subnautica 2 via updates. But Gallegos said the developers also plan to add creature flinches so players actually realise when they’re bonking fish on the face with the hammer. The update released this week appears to have added a change that reflects this ("Increased sensitivity of the Nibblers to the Multitool"). While the killing fish debate rages on, Subnautica 2 is a clear success. It has sold a huge 4 million copies since its early access launch on May 14, achieving more than 467,000 peak concurrent players on Steam — success Gallegos said took the team by surprise. Subnautica 2 has sold so well that publisher Krafton has reportedly agreed to pay a $250 million earnout to the developers — a bonus that was at the heart of its high-profile legal dispute with the fired Unknown Worlds leadership.
